about

The title was a line I came across in a Hemingway book.

Originally it was two completely separate songs-one verging on rock, the other more folky. Not really knowing where to go with it I had shelved it only to return when the album started to take shape.

It isn't a song about despair but those times when things are just not really going your way and you just need someone or something to help you out. Or when you want to scream and shout. Or head to the nearest bar.

Amy Winehouse was a definite inspiration. I felt that the sentiment of the song was one that would have been delivered well by her. The reggae ending added by Janette a fitting tribute.

lyrics

That’s What the Whisky’s For.

V1:
Nobody knows what the next person’s feeling,
Nobody knows what’s in their heads.
Struggling with confusion in broad daylight,
Reflecting on life,
What I haven’t done yet.

CH :
When I’m feeling down and out,
Just want to scream and shout,
When I don’t know just which way to turn.
That’s when I stop to think baby,
That’s when I take a drink, baby
That’s what the whisky’s for,

V2:
Nothing’s better than someone to hold you,
Nothing’s worse than being alone,
Like a fire burning up with desire,
Like the flames,
My dreams end up as smoke.

CH :
When I’m feeling down and out,
Just want to scream and shout,
When I don’t know just which way to turn.
That’s when I stop to think baby,
That’s when I take a drink, baby
That’s what the whisky’s for,

Bridge:
Where are you when I need you?
Feels like all my hopes have gone,
Think I’ll drown in my sorrows,
Think I’ll go get stoned.

CH 2:
When I’m feeling down and out,
Just want to scream and shout,
When I don’t know just which way to turn.
That’s when I stop to think baby,
That’s when I take a drink, baby
That’s what the whisky’s for,

That’s when I stop to think baby,
That’s when I take a drink, baby
That’s what the whisky’s for,

That’s what the whisky’s for,
That’s what the whisky’s for,
That’s what the whisky’s for,
That’s what the whisky’s for.
